DPF Cleaning

A blocked diesel particulate filter can put your car into limp mode and fail its MOT. We’ve been working with diesel engines for over 20 years.

What Is a DPF?

Most modern diesel cars have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) fitted in the exhaust system. It traps soot from the exhaust and burns it off when the car is driven at speed for long enough, which is known as regeneration.

Cars that mostly do short trips around town often don’t get the chance to regenerate, so the filter slowly blocks up. When that happens you’ll usually see a DPF warning light, and the car may lose power or go into limp mode.

How We Can Help

Our first step is always diagnostics, using our engine diagnostic tools to read the fault codes. A blocked DPF is sometimes caused by another fault, such as a sensor, so we find the cause rather than just treating the symptom.

Depending on what we find, we can carry out a cleaning or forced regeneration to get your filter working again.

Will DPF Removal Fail an MOT?

Removing a DPF from a car that left the factory with one is illegal for road use, and it will fail the MOT. We’ll always look to repair or clean your filter instead.
